Somewhere between 30 and 38 percent of Norwell is wetland. The town’s southeastern border is the North River, where shipyards once stood; the Third Herring Brook marks much of the Hanover line; Jacobs Pond sits along Route 123 and Accord Pond at the corner with Rockland and Hingham. The north half of town is hilly, and the southern end of Wompatuck State Park reaches into it.

That makes Norwell a town of long driveways under trees. I have coated and detailed cars for 15 years and more than 1,200 vehicles, and for cars that live under a canopy the problems are predictable: sap, droppings, pollen and leaves, plus a winter on Route 3.

Wooded lots mean sap, bird droppings and leaf litter landing on the car every day it sits outside. Droppings and sap are acidic; left in the sun they can etch the clear coat within days.
Route 3, Route 123 and Route 53
Route 3 crosses Norwell twice, and Routes 123, 53 and 228 carry the local traffic. Winter brine and salt off them dry into a film on rocker panels, wheels and the back of the car.
Pine pollen season
From late May into June the yellow pine pollen coats every parked car in New England. Rain turns it into a paste, and sun bakes that paste on.
Wetland damp
With that much of the town wetland, mornings by the river and the brooks can be damp, and a car that stays wet holds on to whatever has landed on it.

What fits a car in Norwell

Ceramic coating (Express, Essential, Enhanced). Under trees, the value of a coating is time. Sap and droppings sit on the coating rather than the clear coat, which buys you days rather than hours before they leave a mark.

Enhanced Ceramic Coating (7-year, two-stage correction first). If droppings or sap have already etched the paint, the two-stage correction in the Enhanced coating takes the marks out before the 7-year coating goes on.

Wheel Face Coating (coating add-on). Route 3 brine and brake dust bake onto bare wheels. Coated faces rinse clean.
