Scituate faces the open bay along its whole east side, and nearly half its area is water. The shore changes as you go: salt marsh at the mouth of the North River in the south, sand around Scituate Harbor, and bare granite at Minot in the north, with Minot’s Ledge Light offshore. There are five public beaches, Minot, Sand Hills, Egypt, Peggotty and Humarock, and Humarock itself can only be reached by land through Marshfield.

Scituate is highly prone to nor’easters. Onshore wind off the bay drives salt spray inland, and after a storm it sits on paint, glass and trim, holding moisture there and working into seams and around badges.

Between storms, the air along the Harbor, Minot and the Humarock beach still carries salt. It settles on cars every day, not just in bad weather.
Route 3A and Route 123
Scituate has no highway; Route 3A, the Chief Justice Cushing Highway, and Route 123 carry the traffic. Winter brine and salt off them coat lower panels, wheels and the back of the car.
Beach season
Five public beaches mean sand in the carpets, wet towels on the seats and cars parked in full sun by the water all summer.

What fits a car in Scituate

Ceramic coating (Express, Essential, Enhanced). On a coast this exposed, a coating is the protection that matters. Salt sits on a surface it cannot bond to and comes off with a rinse, instead of working on the clear coat for weeks.

Enhanced Ceramic Coating (7-year, two-stage correction first). If salt and sun have already dulled the paint or left swirls, the two-stage correction in the Enhanced coating takes them out before the 7-year coating goes on.

All-Glass Ceramic Coating (coating add-on). After a storm, salt film on the glass smears under the wipers. Coated glass sheds it and the rain with it.
