West Main Road (Route 114) and East Main Road (Route 138) carry most of the island’s traffic. Daily miles on them mean road film, brake dust and stone chips on the front of the car.
Brine in winter
RIDOT sprays salt brine on state roads up to three days ahead of a storm, then salts through it. Routes 114 and 138 get both, and the residue sits on lower panels until it is washed off.
