What the local conditions do to a car

Salt air off Buzzards Bay
Wareham is the innermost town on Buzzards Bay, and a lot of it is waterfront: Onset, the shore neighbourhoods, the Wareham River. Salt-laden air settles on paint and in panel seams every day, not just in storm season.
Winter road salt
I-195, I-495, Route 25 and Route 28 all run through town, and MassDOT pre-treats with brine and salts all winter. That brine dries into a film on lower panels, wheels and the underside of the doors.
Pine pollen and sap
Myles Standish State Forest runs right along the Plymouth line, and pine pollen peaks from late May into June. It sits on paint, gets wet, and bakes. Sap from parking under pitch pines is the other half of that problem.
Summer sand and sun
Beach sand finds its way into carpet fibres and seat rails, and July sun on an unprotected dark car is the fastest way to fade it.

What fits a car in Wareham

Ceramic coating (Express, Essential, Enhanced). A coating is the most useful thing you can do for a car that lives near the water. Salt, pollen and sap sit on top of the coating instead of the clear coat, and a hose takes most of it off.

Wheel Face Coating (coating add-on). Winter brine and brake dust cake onto wheel faces. Coated, they rinse clean instead of needing a scrub.

Full Detail. Once in the spring, after the salt season, is the visit I recommend to anyone who is not coated: the clay bar and sealant take off what the winter left behind.
