Sandwich runs along Cape Cod Bay from the canal entrance east toward Barnstable. The bay shore has six beaches, the boardwalk across the marsh from Scorton Creek toward the canal, and Old Harbor Creek; north of the canal, Scusset Beach State Reservation and Sagamore Hill are cut off from the rest of town. Inland it is classic Cape: small ponds and hills under pine and oak, the Shawme-Crowell State Forest, and a large share of Otis Air National Guard Base.

What the local conditions do to a car

Cape Cod Bay salt air
Along the bay beaches and the marsh behind them, salt air settles on cars every day, holding moisture against paint and trim. Storms off the bay push it further inland; the boardwalk itself has been wrecked and rebuilt more than once.
Pine and oak woods
Most of the trees in Sandwich are pine or oak. Pine pollen peaks from late May into June, and parking under pines means sap and droppings year round.
Route 6, 6A and 130
The Mid-Cape Highway has three exits in town, Route 6A is the main local road, and Route 130 runs south past Otis. Winter brine on them leaves a film on lower panels and wheels.
Six beaches
Summer at Scusset and the bay beaches means sand in the carpets, wet towels on the seats and cars in full sun in a beach lot.

What fits a car in Sandwich

Ceramic coating (Express, Essential, Enhanced). Salt near the bay and pollen and sap inland do their damage the same way, by sitting on the clear coat. A coating keeps them on a slick surface that rinses clean.

Enhanced Ceramic Coating (7-year, two-stage correction first). If sap or salt has already etched or dulled the paint, the two-stage correction in the Enhanced coating takes it out before the 7-year coating goes on.

Interior Ceramic Coating (coating add-on). For a beach car: spills, sunscreen and sandy hands wipe off coated fabric, leather and plastics.
