Kingston is a coastal town, but only just. Its shore is Kingston Bay, an inlet of Plymouth Bay, with Gray’s Beach in the Rocky Nook neighbourhood near the Plymouth line. The Jones River runs through the middle of town from Silver Lake to the bay, and the south of town is state forest along the new stretch of Route 44.

And then there is Route 3. The Pilgrims Highway runs through the east of town with three Kingston exits, and Routes 27, 53, 80 and 106 all end here. I have coated and detailed cars for 15 years and more than 1,200 vehicles, and in Kingston the highway shapes what I recommend as much as the water does.

What the local conditions do to a car

Route 3 and Route 44 brine
MassDOT pre-treats and salts the highways all winter, and both Route 3 and Route 44 cross Kingston. Brine dries into a grey film on lower panels, wheels and the back of the car, and every highway mile adds to it.
Kingston Bay air
Along the bay, at Rocky Nook and Gray’s Beach and up the Jones River, salt air settles on cars every day and holds moisture against the paint.
State forest pine
The south of town is state forest, and pine pollen peaks from late May into June. On a car parked under pines, sap is the year-round version of the same problem.
Commuter miles
Kingston station is the end of the Kingston commuter rail line, and Route 3 is the road north. High-mileage cars collect stone chips, bug splatter and road film on the front end faster than anything else.
What I’d recommend

What fits a car in Kingston

Ceramic coating (Express, Essential, Enhanced). For a car that does a lot of Route 3 miles, a coating makes the front end and lower panels release brine, bugs and road film with a rinse instead of a scrub.

Ceramic Windshield Coating. At highway speed in the rain, a coated windshield sheds water on its own, and salt spray from the car ahead smears less.

Headlight Restoration. Years of highway sun and grit cloud headlight lenses. Restoration sands, polishes and UV-clears them so the light reaches the road again.

Full Detail. If you are not coating, a Full Detail in spring takes the winter’s brine film off with a wash, clay bar, polish and wax.

How booking works in Kingston

Kingston is about 16 miles from Wareham, well inside the 40-mile radius my booking system works to. The assistant confirms your exact address when you book.

I’m mobile: I come to you and the work happens in your driveway. I arrive at one of three times: 9:00 in the morning, 12:30, or 3:00 in the afternoon. A coating takes most of the day, so it gets the morning arrival; a detail can take any time it fits.

Kingston is just up Route 3 past Plymouth, so it is a reasonable drive from Wareham. The booking assistant checks your exact address, and the times it offers are the real ones for where you live.

A coating takes most of a day, so it is booked for a morning arrival; a detail can also take the midday arrival.

Rain on the day
A coating needs a dry day to cure. If rain is forecast I’ll call or text and we pick a new day at no charge; for detailing, light drizzle is usually fine.

Kingston FAQ

Kingston is on my service roster, and the booking assistant confirms your exact address when you book. I work in your driveway; there is no shop to drop the car at.
Yes, arguably more than on a weekend car. Highway miles mean more brine, bugs and road film, and a coating lets all of it come off with far less rubbing, which is what wears paint down over time.
No. A coating is a hard, slick layer that protects against chemical and environmental damage, not impacts. Stopping stone chips is the job of paint protection film, which is a different product.
Most of a day. A coating takes 4 to 8 hours with the preparation and cure, which is why it takes a morning arrival.
