Where the highways split
I-93, I-95 and Route 128 all meet in Canton, and MassDOT brines and salts them hard through every storm. A commute on any of them leaves a film of brine across the lower panels, wheels and rear of the car.
Blue Hills weather
Canton sits at the foot of Great Blue Hill, part of the Blue Hills Reservation. Wooded slopes and the reservation’s forest bring oak pollen in spring, pine pollen into June and leaf fall in autumn.
Ponds and wetland
Bolivar and Forge ponds, the Canton River and the wetlands along Route 138 and I-95 keep parts of town damp. Cars parked nearby dry slowly after rain, and grime stays on the paint longer.
Station parking
Canton Junction, Canton Center and Route 128 station next door all draw commuters. A car left there all day sits in the open, taking sun, pollen and droppings.
