Bristol Harbor has more than 800 moorings, Colt State Park looks across the bay’s West Passage, and Hope Street, Route 114, runs the length of town, with its centre line painted red, white and blue.

With water on both sides of a narrow peninsula, salt air reaches every street, not just the waterfront. It settles on paint, glass and chrome trim and holds moisture against them.
Boats, trailers and ramps
Hundreds of moorings and the boatbuilding on the waterfront mean a lot of tow vehicles. Backing a trailer down a ramp puts a bumper, hitch and wheels close to salt water.
Route 114 and Route 136
Hope Street and Metacom Avenue carry most traffic through town, and the Mount Hope Bridge is the way to Aquidneck. RIDOT brines and salts them in winter, and the residue coats lower panels.
Pollen and leaves
Pine pollen covers cars from late May to mid-June, and the old shade trees in the historic streets drop wet leaves in the fall. Both stain paint if they are left to sit.

What fits a car in Bristol
