Bellingham sits in the southwest corner of Norfolk County, where I-495 crosses the north end of town and Route 126 runs down to the Woonsocket line. It is one of the farthest towns on my roster from Wareham, so I would rather tell you how booking works before telling you anything about paint.

What the local conditions do to a car

I-495 brine and salt
The interstate crosses the north end of town and MassDOT pre-treats it with brine before storms and salts it through them. A car that does the 495 commute every day carries that film on its lower panels, wheels and rear hatch all winter.
Route 126 and Route 140
Most local driving runs on the two state routes, north to south on 126 and across town on 140. Stop-and-go on salted roads throws more grit at the paint than highway miles do, and it collects behind the wheels.
Charles River country and mill ponds
The Charles runs through town, and several of Bellingham’s ponds were built on old swamp to power the mills. Cars parked near water and wetland stay damp longer after rain, which keeps salt and grime working on the paint.
Spring pollen
Oak and maple pollen arrives in April and May, then pine pollen from late May into June. It lands on every parked car, gets wet, and bakes on in the sun if it is left there.
