Ceramic Coating for Acura

From an everyday MDX to an NSX wearing $6,000 aerospace-grade Andaro pearl, Acura runs soft Japanese paint and some seriously deep specialty finishes. A ceramic coating suits both.

Soft Japanese clears; multi-coat Andaro / PMC pearls
Soft everyday paint plus exotic multi-layer specialty finishes — both reward coating.

Most Acura paint follows the Japanese pattern — soft, glossy, easy to polish and easy to mar. That alone makes a coating worthwhile: soft paint needs a harder sacrificial layer more than hard paint does.

At the top of the range, Acura does something remarkable. The NSX’s optional Andaro colors — Nouvelle Blue Pearl, Valencia Red Pearl — use an aerospace-derived PPG process with a tinted clear mid-coat at double the normal thickness, topped by two more clear coats and days of curing. It’s a $6,000 finish with depth that looks soaking wet when dry, and it’s exactly the kind of paint you protect.

Why it matters

Why coat your Acura

Sacrificial hardness for soft paint
Acura’s soft clear coat marks easily. A coating adds a harder layer on top that absorbs daily contact, keeping the easily-marred factory paint underneath looking corrected.
Protects irreplaceable Andaro pearls
Andaro and PMC pearl finishes are multi-clear-coat showpieces — a $6,000 option built over days. A coating amplifies that depth and protects a finish no body shop can casually re-create.
Pops the deep blues and reds
Nouvelle Blue and Valencia Red have a chroma that shifts with the light — and swirls flatten it. Careful correction and a coating restore the dimensional, wet look those colors are famous for.
Everyday MDX and TLX, made easy
A family MDX or a daily TLX gets the practical win — bird droppings, sap, and road film rinse off instead of etching, and washing gets quick and safe.
Andaro and PMC editions: depth worth preserving
The NSX Andaro colors and PMC-built editions use a tinted clear mid-coat at double the standard thickness plus additional clears — an aerospace-grade pearl process that takes days to paint and cure. It’s irreplaceable in any practical sense. On a finish like that, the right move is gentle correction and a protective coating, so the depth is preserved and never has to be chased again.
The Andaro blue on an NSX is one of the most beautiful finishes ever put on a car — it looks wet sitting still. You don’t take chances with paint like that. Gentle correction, a good coating, and it stays a showpiece. Even a regular MDX, though, benefits — soft paint loves a coating.

Owner’s Pride

Silicon-carbide flagship chemistry, self-healing topcoats, and the only major coating warranty with no annual-inspection bill.

Owner’s Pride is a family-run American coating company — two generations and more than two decades at the front edge of surface-protection chemistry. Chris is a trained, certified Owner’s Pride installer, which means every coating is registered under Owner’s Pride’s nationwide written warranty.

SiC — not just SiO₂
Owner’s Pride leads with Silicon Carbide (SiC) chemistry in its flagship line. SiC is harder and more heat-stable than the silica (SiO₂) most coatings rely on — denser protection and a deeper, wetter gloss.
Heat-activated self-healing
The OP X and SELECT topcoats are engineered so light wash swirls and marring soften away with heat — sun, warm water, engine bay. The finish keeps looking corrected far longer.
A warranty without the catch
Coverage runs 3, 5, 7, or 9 years as a written Owner’s Pride product warranty registered to your car — with no mandatory paid annual inspection to keep it valid. Most ‘lifetime’ coatings quietly require one.

The process

How we coat your car

1
Decontamination wash
A thorough hand wash and chemical decontamination strips bonded iron, rail dust, and road tar that a normal wash leaves behind.
45 min
2
Clay treatment
A clay pass pulls off any remaining bonded contamination, leaving the paint glass-smooth so nothing gets trapped under the coating.
30 min
3
Paint correction
Machine polishing removes swirls, light scratches, and oxidation. On the Enhanced tier this is a two-stage compound-and-polish that restores a showroom finish.
2–4 hrs
4
Solvent cleanse
An IPA wipe clears every trace of polishing oil so the coating bonds to perfectly bare clear coat — not to residue.
15 min
5
Owner’s Pride application
The coating is laid down panel by panel with a suede applicator and leveled by hand — even coverage, no high spots, then registered under the Owner’s Pride warranty.
45 min
6
Curing
The coating cross-links over 24 hours. The vehicle stays dry and out of direct sun while it hardens. You get specific aftercare in writing.

Ceramic coating FAQ

It’s exactly what that finish deserves. Andaro is a multi-layer, aerospace-derived pearl built over several days and effectively irreplaceable. We correct it conservatively — only what’s genuinely needed — and protect it with a coating, so the depth is preserved and you never have to risk repeated correction on a $6,000 finish.
Like most Japanese paint, Acura clear coat is soft — it polishes up beautifully but marks from light contact, including improper washing. A coating adds a harder sacrificial layer that takes that daily wear, which is the most effective way to keep soft paint looking new.
Yes, for the practical benefits. A family SUV deals with constant bird droppings, sap, road film, and car-wash swirls. A coating makes all of that rinse off easily and keeps washing quick and safe — the everyday version of the same protection the exotic finishes get.
Deep gloss and tight water beading after coating.
