About 1,400 acres of town are cranberry bogs, especially in the southeast. Dirt roads along the bogs and farm traffic put grit and mud on lower panels, and grit wiped off dry is how swirls start.
I-495 and the rotary
I-495 runs through town on its way to Cape Cod, and the Middleboro rotary joins it to Routes 18, 28 and 44. MassDOT pre-treats with brine and salts through every storm, and the film dries onto wheels and lower panels.
The big ponds
Assawompset, Pocksha and Great Quittacas ponds line the Lakeville border, with Tispaquin and Woods ponds elsewhere in town. Near the water, dew and fog sit on paint in the morning and pollen sticks to it.
