Lincoln is a town of mill villages along the Blackstone River, Manville, Albion, Lonsdale, Saylesville and Fairlawn among them, with Lime Rock in the middle, where limestone has been quarried since colonial times. Route 146 and I-295 cross in town, Lincoln Woods State Park is inside the town line, and Bally’s Twin River sits on the old Lincoln Downs track.

Route 146 and I-295
Route 146 runs from Providence through Lincoln toward Worcester, and I-295 meets it in town. Daily highway miles add brake dust, road film and stone chips on the front of the car.
More snow than the coast
Snowfall in Rhode Island climbs as you move inland from the bay, from about 20 inches a year on the southeast shore to 25 to 30 around greater Providence and 40 to 55 in the western third of the state. RIDOT brines state roads up to three days before each storm, and that film ends up on your car.
Sap, droppings and leaves
A car parked under trees collects sap, bird droppings and wet fall leaves, and each can etch the clear coat if it is left to sit.
Pollen season
From late May until about mid-June, pine pollen coats every car outside and dries into a yellow film in the sun.
